One of the most common types of sports jewelry you’ll find on eBay are minor league championship rings. These days, nearly every professional sports franchise of note presents its players with a ring for winning a title. What was once the domain of major leaguers is now a tradition practiced throughout baseball.
As funding of minor league operations has increased and big league organizations take steps to ensure they’re perceived as first class, minor league championship rings have become more common.
While the rings may be meaningful to most players, minor leaguers are more likely to be in a situation where they have to sell their rings. While high draft picks may earn enough money to make a comfortable living and never look back, others fall on hard times like the rest of us do sometimes. Their minor league championship ring may be one of the items they see as potentially expendable.
The value of a minor league championship ring can vary. If it once belonged to a player who eventually did make the majors, collectors may look favorably on it as a collectible. If not, it still has some collector value for those who collect championship rings, but that value may be less than a couple hundred dollars.
While more minor league championship rings may hit the open market than World Series or other major league championship rings, they share one quality with their more expensive counterparts. They are far more scarce than virtually any other type of sports collectible.
