The Pittsburgh Penguins have been around for decades now and have become one of the league’s premier franchises thanks to some legendary players who helped them earn Stanley Cup rings.
Led by the exciting Mario LeMieux, he Penguins posted a 41-33-6 record for the 1990-1991 season winning their division. Pittsburgh went into the playoffs and defeated New Jersey in 7, Washington in 5 and Boston in 6 to face the Minnesota North Stars in the Stanley Cup finals. They defeated the North Stars in 6 games and won their first Stanley Cup.
Despite going 39-32-9 for the 1991-1992 season, the Penguins still made the playoffs and tore through Washington in 7, New York in 6 and Boston in 4. Pittsburgh then faced Chicago in the Stanley Cup finals and swept them to make it two in a row.
In the 2008-2009 season, Sidney Crosby exploded into a scoring machine, leading the Penguins to a 45-28-9 record and into the playoffs to face their cross-state rivals, the Philadelphia Flyers. They beat the Flyers in 6, the Capitals in 7 and the Hurricanes in 4 before facing the Detroit Red Wings in the Stanley Cup finals. The series went back and forth but two Max Talbot goals in game seven gave the Pens their third title.
